GW3 Preview: The Easiest Captain Call of the Season So Far

Gameweek 2 was a points party — a 79-point average, a 161-point top score, and Bruno Fernandes rewarding his backers with a monster 23-point haul. GW3 closes on Thursday evening (the countdown on our dashboard shows your local time), and this week the big calls are unusually clear-cut. Here's the run-through.
What GW2 told us
Two weeks in, some early-season stories are starting to look like trends rather than noise. Manchester City's Cherki followed his opening-day masterclass with 14 more points and now leads the form charts at 21% ownership — no longer a differential, simply a pick. Arsenal's Calafiori (42% owned, form 10.0) has quietly become the season's first must-have defender. And Hull's budget brigade — Ajayi, keeper Tzolakis, Egan — keep piling up returns almost nobody owns. Meanwhile the GW2 average of 79 means if you scored in the 60s, you actually lost ground — worth remembering before you judge your season too kindly.
The fixture that decides the week
One matchup towers over the round: Manchester City at home to Coventry — the easiest fixture rating on the board. Everything City-shaped is in play: Haaland, Cherki, and City's defenders for the clean sheet. On the other side of the coin, Arsenal v Chelsea is the round's heavyweight collision, rated hard for both sides — a reason to temper expectations for Saka, Calafiori, Palmer and João Pedro alike, though big players often decide big games.

Captaincy corner

- B.Fernandes (MUN, away at EVE) — the form pick after 23 points, but Goodison away is a real test. Vice-captain material this week.
- Cherki (MCI, home v COV) — the aggressive alternative: same dream fixture as Haaland at 21% ownership. If you're chasing your mini-league, doubling City's creator instead of their finisher is a calculated way to gain ground.

Differentials worth a look
Hull's defensive core is the story here: Ajayi (6.2% owned, form 10.0) and keeper Tzolakis (5.7%) host Aston Villa in a winnable game, and at their prices they're near-free upgrades for anyone carrying a non-playing bench. Arsenal's White (7%) is a cheaper route into the Arsenal defence than Calafiori — though the Chelsea clash cools that idea for a week. Leeds' Stach (2.8%) keeps producing and travels to Brighton.
